U18/U16 Head Coach - Coach Experience: 14 years High School & 15 years Club Ball

Nicole Miles

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I started playing volleyball and basketball in the 5th grade and went on to play four years of Varsity in each sport for my small high school. My five siblings all played soccer, football, softball, baseball….so naturally, being the baby of the family, I had to do my own thing. 😊

While in college, I started my coaching career at the rec level and after moving back home to Bend, Oregon the next year I started my high school and club career. I spent six seasons with Summit High School as their freshmen coach and assisting with their Varsity going to the State Tourney every year as well as coaching for Oregon Volleyball Academy at their U14 level. When I moved to Portland I coached JV for Aloha High School and assisted their Varsity to a third-place state finish before accepting the Head Varsity position at Forest Grove High School where I spent five seasons helping to rebuild their youth and high school program making a post season appearance twice as well as developing a club program.

During that time, I was fortunate to coach for the Multnomah Athletic Club (MAC) as well as Athena Volleyball where I worked alongside some amazing coaches and mentors. My last project was with the Portland State Women’s Club team this past winter and spring which was a good peak into the college scene while working with some phenomenal student athletes.

I love coaching because I enjoy seeing hard work pay off, the aspect of teamwork and unity show through a team’s play on the court, and helping foster a lifelong love of a sport from a young age. I also love playing still and have enjoyed watching my niece play on the West Valley Frosh Team for the 2017 season.

I believe in fundamentals of the game, making drills as game like as possible, and having consistency from the practice court to the game court. I very much support an “Ubuntu” philosophy with the notion of “I am because we are” where every member contributes to the team’s success whether they are on the court or sidelines and growth only happens when we get out of our comfort zone.

For 2019, I am finishing up my first season as C-Squad volleyball coach and assisting the varsity for Naches Valley High School.

In my free time, (what is that? lol) I enjoy being active, watching sports, going to concerts or the movies, and spending time with my three fur babies. Currently, I’m the Clinic Manager over the two Astria Urgent Cares in Yakima and Union Gap. I’m very much looking forward to coaching again at Club Selah as I've found it to be a great support system of coaches, the community, and love being able to be a part of the kid’s lives.

U16 Coach - Coaching Experience: 4 years Club Ball

Brooke Goodpaster

PERSONAL EXPERIENCE: I have been playing volleyball since the 5th grade. I was a three-year Varsity player for Selah High School and am a recent graduate in 2017. I received several awards such as two-time CWAC All-League setter my junior and senior year. I attended state all three years of my varsity career.  The highlight to my volleyball career was placing third at state my sophomore year.  My team also placed my junior year at state. I was also captain of Selah’s Varsity volleyball team my senior year. I played club volleyball all my life, including several years for Team Yakima and Club Selah for 6 years.  I still occasionally play recreational volleyball competitively.

This will be my fourth year coaching club volleyball. My interest in coaching first started coaching camps while I was in high school.  I coached Lokahi Volleyball Club's U14 team for two successful seasons.  Last year, I coached Club Selah's U14 Blue team.  I am excited for another season here in Selah.  In addition to volleyball, I coached tennis through the United States Tennis Association and Yakima Parks and Rec.  I also have just recently begun working as a volleyball official for WIAA.

Currently, I am a nursing student pursuing my BSN/RN degree.  I am a proud volunteer at North Star Cancer Center every Monday morning.  I am a strong believer that playing competitive sports, primarily volleyball, has taught me skills such as leadership, team work, and responsibility.  These skills have really helped me in college and beyond.  It is my goal to pass these life long tools on to the girls on my team.  I have always seen coaching as a way to give back to the sport that has given me so much.

I am also the proud owner of five horses, three bunnies, a cat, and a dog.  I love to go hiking, water skiing, and spend time with my family and friends.

Hanna Halverson

I am originally from Montana. I graduated with a Health Science degree and I am currently pursuing my Masters in Professional Counseling.

I’ve been involved in sports for most of my life; an All-State athlete in Basketball and Volleyball. I also earned state placement in Track and Swim Team. I played basketball in college, so I understand the mental game it takes to play at a higher level.

Sports teach kids so much about life; how to persevere through hardship and discover the true potential of who they are. I’m happy to come alongside kids in any way I can, creating an athlete that is not only physically tough, but mentally as well.  I believe in investing in the next generation...instilling hard work, excellence and a love for sport.
